This article does a good job of showing that Palin is already just a mouthpiece. She doesn't bring any substance to the ticket. Oh, how I wish Obama had picked Sebelius as his running mate. I wished that before, but now that Palin is on the Republican ticket, I wish that we had Sebelius, an example of a truly competent leader, to act as yet more contrast against Palin's complete lack of credentials and experience.
As one comment on that website indicated, this is simply a delay tactic. Palin wants the results of the investigation to be delayed until after the election. If the current investigation proceeds unimpeded, the results will be public a few days prior to the election. This is nothing but disingenuous politics. She's pretending to be ethical when she's really just trying to keep important information away from the public until it's too late to do any good.
I've seen the video. It looks to me like she was disobeying the police and would not move to where they asked her to move. It also didn't look to me like her arrest was "violent", or at least any more than was necessary to arrest someone who didn't want to be arrested.
I agree somewhat with the article in that Bush's policies have made the region less stable, but I would certainly disagree with the writer that a stronger militaristic stance is the proper avenue toward peace. The author is a Zionist, while I am an anti-Zionist. I think many of the people in the region would agree to live in relative peace if Israel were not so plainly and boldly antagonist toward its neighbors. They bring regional hatred upon themselves and us thanks to our blind support. The key to peace is for Israel to start acting like a fellow regional partner who truly wants peace among all people. Unfortunately, their elitist attitude prevents them from such action.
I rate this story low because, well, it's not a story. This shouldn't have been submitted to a news site.
The last thing we need is more neoconservatives in office who refuse to listen to intelligence that doesn't match up with their war aims and foreign policy goals. This article provides some interesting background, much of which I hadn't heard before.
The Republican Party has gone astray because it caters to the far-right religious evangelicals who are intellectually separating themselves from the rest of the world. And I don't mean that as a compliment. The GOP needs to return to their core values, particularly with regard to fiscal issues. They haven't truly been about smaller government in 40 years. When was the last time you saw government shrink with a Republican in charge? When was the last time you saw a balanced budget or even a surplus? And I mean a real surplus, not smoke and mirrors and curious accounting tricks. Right now, the GOP is dominated by people focusing on issues that are losing battles in the long-term: abortion, gay rights and foreign policy. ... More »
It highlights Biden's foreign policy experience, but doesn't really say how it differs from the foreign policy experience of many in the Bush administration. I'd like to hear more about how he differentiates himself from the pack.
