OECD iLibrary: Statistics / Education: Key Tables from OECD / Tertiary education graduation rates 2010
This entire article is based on the (false) premise that anyone opposed to illegal immigration is a xenophobic racist. While I agree with the main thrust of the commentary (Not getting rid of birthright citizenship), it is framed against an incorrect background. In my opinion, this article only seeks to demonize the opposite side in the debate by taking an issue put forward by extremists, and pretending that it is the view of all those against illegal immigration.
He starts out by pretending to be neutral in his attacks, but it is just yet another "conservative" bashing "liberals". I suppose they will have an article where "liberals" are bashing "conservatives" and call it fair and balanced.
It is well known that left wing nuts, are, well, nuts.. However, the right wing nuts try to show an air of respectability that is not deserved. We need to see more of these articles to highlight how insane the far right wing actually is.
It is an under reported topic, but this particular article is short on facts, and the people interviewed are well meaning but lack any kind of scientific foundation.
I'm sure that easier to paint everything in black and white, but this story is missing a lot of depth. For instance, I wonder how many people support Arizona only because they are the only ones appearing to do anything about illegal immigration. Or, how many Hispanics are only against the Arizona law just because of the chance of racial profiling.
If this story came out, oh, say 5 years ago, then it would have been a great story. However, the press were too cowed to even consider something like this back then. I am sure their sudden attack of intestinal fortitude will evaporate as soon as some politician says "boo".
Need more stories like this, but with some balance - Is this expected by BP, the government? What are their reactions to it? What are they doing about it?
An excellent story that stays away from the simple talking points which seem to dominate these stories.
It sticks to the facts, is concise and informative. I was disappointed that they didn't cover the most divisive decision Obama has made - challenging Arizona for tackling illegal immigration, but that seems to be par for the course in the media these days.
