The author developed a creative method of explaining not only the uniqueness of the children's interests in gourmet cooking, but also subtly touched upon the ever-present issue of childhood nutrition and obesity, as well as the importance of fostering a community for children at a young age. I enjoyed especially the children's quotes about what dishes they prepared. You could almost hear the pride in their voices.
The story is fascinating because it begins with the tone of Bill Richardson, a rather tired old gentleman, and transitions into grander ideas, the culture of a marketplace, and its importance to Baltimore. Though it is a colorful piece, it certainly does need work making the ideas flow, and clarifying the more wordy phrases.
I will take this article at face value. I do not believe it was meant to provide in-depth insight to the possibilities of the crab population. The author wrote it simply to provide us with an update of a topic that truly hasn't received much attention. I do agree, however, that one quote from the governor simply does not do it justice. If the O'Malley hosted a news conference specifically discussing these issues, there must be more information than "we're moving forward."
I found this story to be relevant to the current social media trends, especially as other companies are developing and recruiting mobile applications in hopes of being the next Angry Birds. I would have like to see if this event had occurred before, and if any of the major applications had spawned from this brainstorming session, or even background of where other applications developed from. Other than that, I found the story engaging and well-sourced.
I am more than confused as to why no one was identified in this story. Not only does the 14-year-old remain nameless, but also police source. Where did the author find the information about the details of the crime? A press release, a phone call, an anonymous tip? Leaving out specific references lowers the credibility of this already vague article. Also, the author doesn't explore the reason as to why they are charging the boy as an adult. If there is a law that addresses such violent assault as a minor, it should be listed, at least to provide some explanation.
Upon Schaefer's death, the newspapers were splashed with obituaries and recounts of his accomplishments, his oddities, and his politics. What this editorial provides is both background about his life and Schaefer as a man, not a politician. He didn't necessarily always function as a politician, and this author truly illustrates that.
Scanning the article, I see a lack of even basic sources. There's little value to this article other than thinly. veiled racial remarks. Why this was published is beyond me.
While it's understandable to provide only the information available in the original press release for a breaking news stories, I'm confused as to why the story was not updated with direct quotes from the actual sources referenced in the story. Welsh is an easily contactable source and would likely answer questions about her plans for her time as interim president.
While this article does illuminate vivid examples of the poverty the organization is attempting to eradicate, I found myself wondering if the story would develop into more of a feature angle of specific individual(s). I think highlighting the experiences of those who are homeless or who have been would bring a harsh, realistic edge to what occurs daily in Baltimore County.

While providing historical background on the former congressman, this story does absolutely nothing than glorify a rumor from one individual without any factual evidence to back up the claims. If Mr. Forman could not contact Mfume, then the story should not have been published.
