Despite the promise of the Obama presidency, it's time to realize we're not living in a "post-racial" society. It's time to speak out against bigotry and to call out those in public life who encourage hate and violence with their words. And it's time to invest in the future of our nation and its youth -- to provide hope and opportunity to the next generation. Our future depends on it.

Over the years, the neo-Confederate group’s platform grew to be distinctly racist, with the goal of a theocratic South defined by “the cultural dominance of the Anglo-Celtic people and their institutions,” as its president, former Stillman College professor Michael Hill, once put it. At the same time, its early rhetoric angrily demanding that the rest of the country treat the South with more respect has been replaced with explicit calls for a second secession from the “ungodly” North.

At a City Council meeting this week, hundreds of angry residents assailed their elected officials, calling the Police Department corrupt, demanding the resignation of the police chief and promising to recall several council members. “There was a lot of fear and anger and shock,” said Bruce Whitaker, a Fullerton council member. “Homeless individuals are concerned for their own safety, and they have nowhere else to go.”

Racial slurs such as coon, jungle bunny, sambo, jigaboo, etc. have never been anything other than a slur, the same can’t be said for the n-word. Other derogatory words such as kike, hymie, wet back, spic, honky, redneck, cracker, poor white trash, faggot, retard, etc. are just that, derogatory—the n-word’s reprehensible history is what alienates it from the rest, qualifying it as the most infamous, profane word in the English language. For more than 300 years it served as ... More »

ThyBlackMan.com) Statistics reveal that victimizations of African Americans from violent crime such as murder, rape, sexual assault, burglary and robbery are committed by African Americans. We live with these facts and to a certain extent accept them. But what if these crimes were committed by whites on our community? What would be our response? Would it be outrage, anger, rage, and the call for justice and retaliation? If so, then why is it not the same reaction from our community ... More »

The class action lawsuit charges the immigration law is unconstitutional on multiple grounds. It will subject residents of Alabama – including countless U.S. citizens and non-citizens with permission to be in the United States – to racial profiling as well as unlawful interrogations, searches, seizures and arrests that violate the Fourth Amendment.

ThyBlackMan.com) The Bible is filled with characters who started out on shaky ground – Paul, David and Solomon, among them – before being transformed into epic figures. But it seems that Black leaders who dare to criticize President Obama don’t get second chances. Instead, they are the object of widespread ridicule and condemnation.

The Ku Klux Klan has been regularly criticized for encouraging violence against African Americans and terrorizing our community. But the truth is that the Klan doesn’t have much power anymore, and their thirst for African American blood seems to have waned a bit. At the same time, Lil Wayne and artists like him have made a habit of encouraging black men to shoot one another, to abuse or murder women, to consume suicidal amounts of drugs and alcohol and to engage in irresponsible, ... A wave of recent violence has brought new attention to a very old and intractable problem in black communities across the country. Among the latest cases is Georgia teenager Bobby Tillman, who was stomped, kicked and punched to death by four young men, for no apparent reason; and a 5-year-old boy caught in the crossfire of a suspected gang feud. And who can forget last year's searing case of Derrion Albert, a Chicago honors student stomped to death by a group of his peers?

As the progressive Blue Virginia blog reported Monday, Virginia Beach Republican Party chair Dave Bartholomew forwarded a racist email comparing African Americans to dogs. The email, subject line "my, dog," consists of a racist parable about African Americans and welfare. In the first 24 hours since the email came to light, Democrats condemned Bartholomew and he resigned his position with the Republican Party.

The authors do not argue that all or most of Tea Party activists are explicit racists or sympathize with the ideas and goals of extremists. Rather, they argue that racist individuals and groups have been drawn to the movement from the beginning; in most cases, they are forced out of their respective groups only when their beliefs and associations result in bad press.
