The NewsTrust format and idea are interesting for the possibility of a democraticly influenced news source. It provides another channel for getting news and views out to the public, a channel without a visible filter of the corporate press.

Badger reports on a study trying to understand why some people's beliefs are not disturbed by facts. Quite interesting, but not as deep as one might hope. The report itself looks more informative.

Not very surprising news to us Washingtonians. I find it a bit strange to categorize rural eastern Washington as "blue collar." The story focuses on the "religious" ties of sexual orientation bigots, and barely mentions the large religious support for human rights in the Seattle area. Journalistically quite so-so.

It is good journalism in alarming the public that the health care bill contains a provision that flies in the face of scientific medical practice, violates the separation of church and state, is stupid, and costs taxpayers.

Call your congress critters. Remove the provision.

Dr. Norman Fost, a pediatrician and medical ethicist at the University of Wisconsin, said the measure went against the goal of reducing healthcare costs by improving ... More »

Monbiot looks at the firming opposition to the clear science of man-caused climate change, and develops an interesting hypothesis for the denial and the particular centering of the denial in older people. No mention is included of the oil industry funding of the disinformation campaign.

I guess that makes me a counter-example...

The debate about global warming that’s raging on the internet and in the rightwing press does not reflect any such debate in the scientific journals. More »
