Newsworthiness does depend a great deal on ethnicity and race, because different news aspects will have different newsworthy aspects from different perspectives. Because this article is targeting a smaller minority, then the newsworthy aspects dont have to applied to a broader scale and they can be more specific. They are going to take quotes from people in those particular ethnicities and only talk about things related to a more specific audience, in this case, non english speakers.

Has his upbringing affected his determination to fight against gay marriage? Would he considered marriage to be strictly church? How does he feel about separation of church and state?
What has made him want to stay out of the public eye? What is the newsworthy event that is being conveyed through Johnson?
The quotes used were relevant and prominent. Using a quote from the current president hold more weight than someone not as well known. The story itself also holds a lot of controversy and emotion which is why it's newsworthy. However most of the article was quotes and there wasn't enough context to know enough about the actual event.
Although the content of this article is extremely relevant the current climate, the author seems to be extremely biased and opinionated which deters from his credibility. It is newsworthy in some aspects because It is a controversial topic and it holds a lot of impact. This is considering the winner of the different states could determine the final winner of the election.

I personally am not voting for Obama or Romney because I am voting for the Green Party candidate Jill stein. Regardless, the outcome of the elections will greatly affect me and thus I have interest in the topic. However I did not think how the article was written as fair as it could have been to both parties.
