This is what an investigative story should look like. Someone writing for the New York Times probably doesn't spend too much time in the City of Baltimore, but when they do, they'll probably realize just how depressing the school system really is around here. But that's why some of these stories need to be written: so that people outside of Baltimore realize how things are happening in places they wouldn't normal think about or visit. If I didn't know any better, I would think that the schools in Baltimore are all bad and that when this Dr. Alonso arrived, he changed everything. There's nothing on this article that makes it stand out or even appear worth going out of your way to read. Also, a story from summer 2009 means nothing in September 2011.

As someone that's only lived in Baltimore part-time for a little over a year, it's a shame to see things like this about homes that have been ravaged and are affecting others. I'm sure there are problems in every city in the country like this, but when you read about something that is relevant in your hometown or city, it's hard to accept.
